Scotland Team Triumph at Grand Slam in Dublin

Scotland Team

Another successful weekend for the Meadowbank Karate Group as they travelled to Dublin to take part in the ‘Grand Slam’ competing against England, Ireland and Wales.  The Ladies team (Chloe Maclean, Chelsea Wishart, Heather McLaren, Pam Robb) came away with the Bronze medal, beating Wales and England in the early rounds but unfortunately were narrowly beaten by Ireland to get into the final of the competition.  Chelsea Wishart, who competed for the first time in a ‘Senior’ International event fought outstanding, beating her English opponent very convincingly.  Chelsea showed great strength and determination on the mat and did her club very proud!  Another member of the squad who shone on the day was Chloe Maclean who won all of her fights!  Chloe, who has previously won a Bronze medal at World level, showed marvelous talent!  Unfortunately Pam Robb injured her knee in the early rounds and could not continue in the competition.

After an extraordinary display the Men’s team (Calum Robb, Chrissy McDonald, David Bolton, Martin Douglas, Steven Murray, Frankie Murphy, Darren Dunlop) lifted the Gold medal beating England very persuasively in the early rounds!  Calum, Chrissy and David, all from the Meadowbank Karate Group, gave an extremely credible performance throughout the day and were unbeaten in their fights!    After beating the Welsh national team the men faced Ireland in the final of the competition and triumphed to take the Gold.  Everyone fought outstanding on the day and should be truly proud of what they achieved!  They showed fantastic unity as a team!   Regrettably, Mark Wyllie, also from Meadowbank, was selected but unable to compete due to injury, but in true team spirit travelled with the squad to support his fellow team mates!
